Acceleration and Fuel Efficiency: The Choice is Automatic
Cat® CX31 transmission improves acceleration and fuel efficiency
The new Cat® CX31 heavy-duty automatic transmission has the power, performance and durability you need in demanding applications such as ready-mix trucks, fuel haulers, pick-up and delivery vehicles, bulk material transporters and motor coaches.
As a longtime leader in manufacturing off-road construction equipment, Caterpillar has leveraged its extensive driveline expertise to develop and produce a new planetary automatic transmission designed specifically for heavy-duty, on-highway vocational applications.
The CX31 Transmission completed an extensive field-testing program of more than 100,000 hours and 1.8 million miles of successful operation in a broad range of applications. The field-testing program demonstrated the outstanding reliability that customers expect from Caterpillar products. The testing also illustrated performance advantages – including faster acceleration and better fuel economy – over other available transmissions in similar applications.
With the introduction of the CX31 Transmission, Caterpillar can now provide original equipment manufacturers with a fully integrated engine and transmission power train package using 2007 EPA-compliant Cat C13 and Cat C15 Engines with ACERT™ Technology. This integrated power train package is available for Class 7 and 8, recreational vehicle, motor coach, fire apparatus and other on-highway vocational chassis.
The combination of the proven performance of a Cat Engine coupled to the CX31 Transmission provides users with the most advanced power train package available today. In addition, field support is available through the Cat Dealer network, the same support network that has helped Caterpillar earn six straight JD Power awards for customer satisfaction. Cat Transmission users will further benefit from single-source product support for the power train package, which is unparalleled in today’s marketplace.
“We see tremendous opportunity in the on-highway business segment for dependable, high-quality systems integrating Cat Engines and Transmissions,” says Steve Rutherford, Manager, and Global On-Highway Transmissions Marketing. “We are dedicated to providing superior products that meet the needs of OEM manufacturers and are built on the high quality standards established through Caterpillar’s core business segments.”
