Our nation’s highways link us to the world. When a shipment of hazardous materials enters this country or travels our highways, certain requirements must be met for public safety. Part 177 of title 49 of the code of federal regulations contains the regulations specific to highway transportation. Due to Docket HM-181, some of the highway specific requirements contained in title 49 part 177 have changed. In this video, we’ll look at part 177 and examine compatibility and segregation of hazardous materials, several of the miscellaneous changes made by Docket Hm-181, blocking and bracing, and we’ll see examples of what can happen when the highway specific requirements are disregarded.
