Poison-Inhalation Hazardous Materials
18 Minutes

Congress has mandated that materials that are poisonous when their vapors are inhaled be identified as POISON INHALATION HAZARD MATERIALS. Due to the dangerous characteristics of PIH materials, it is extremely important that those who handle hazardous material packages are aware of the presence of poison inhalation hazard materials. Protecting hazardous materials handlers, emergency responders, and the general public is the reason for hazard communication and stringent packaging requirements.

This video takes a close look at these questions: What are the characteristics of POISON INHALATION HAZARD materials and what hazards do they present to the public and people that handle them? How are PIH materials classified and identified? How are the hazards of PIH materials communicated for safe transportation? Who is responsible for making sure that shipments of these materials are classified, described, marked, labeled, placarded and handled correctly?
