Many items being moved on our nation’s highways are materials, in solid form, that have flammable characteristics. These materials have been defined by title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations as Class 4 Flammable Solid Materials. In this video, you will see the different types of Class 4 materials and what kind of dangers they can present in transportation. You’ll also see the types of Class 4 materials that are commonly shipped and what can happen when they are involved in an incident. The hazard communication requirements that a commercial vehicle carrying Class 4 materials must have, and some basic guidelines for responding to an incident involving Class 4 hazardous materials.
